We asked Nikos Gionakis, scientific director and head of Babel, about access to mental health services in Athens, prevalent stereotypes about refugees, and the relationship between housing and mental health.

Babel is a mental health centre which has been working with migrants and refugees in Athens since November 2007. Its mission is to take care of migrants’ mental health, and to take care of professionals and volunteers working with migrants and refugees. Babel also advocate for migrants’ and refugees’ rights, especially those which are linked to mental health. The centre offers care regardless of age, nationality, origin, gender or documented status.
